The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT), Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) and its 11 Regional Offices, the Small Business Transportation Resource Centers (SBTRCs), took part in a two-day training session at DOT headquarters on June 18 and 19, 2014.
The theme of the training was “Building Next Level Success,” with the goal of further enhancing the Department’s small business programs and reaching new audiences. Acting Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez; Camille Hazeur, Director, Office of Civil Rights; Brandon Neal, Director, OSDBU, and others took part in discussions about providing Ladders of Opportunity to businesses across the country.
In addition, participants attended the Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx’s remarks to the National Association of Minority Contractors where on June 19 he shared his vision concerning opportunities for small business contracting at DOT.
Throughout the two days of training, participants focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of OSDBU’s Bonding Education Program, Short Term Lending Program, the Women in Transportation Initiative, the Mentor Protégé Program, and other procurement assistance the Department of Transportation provides to the nation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and Small Business community. Participants left the training feeling reenergized and better equipped to carry out the mission of encouraging, promoting and assisting small businesses in becoming prepared to compete for, obtain and manage transportation-related direct contracts and sub-contracts at the local, state and federal levels.
